Exodus: Kings Will Bow Down

Vladimir Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, and Kim Jong Un of North Korea all share at least one thing in common.

They are not in charge—Jesus is.

Long before any ruler of the Russians or chairman of the Chinese ever wielded his draconian might, it was the emperor of Egypt who held powerful sway on the world stage. For sure it was Pharaoh who called all the shots and exercised unbridled authority in his day.

Or so it seemed. In reality, however, Pharaoh’s unbridled authority actually had a bridle. And that bridle belonged to the true Lord over all the earth. We see this truth played out most poignantly during the time of the Exodus. In fact, the very purpose of the ten plagues in Egypt, we are told, is to herald the news of who really rules the world.

“But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth” (Ex. 9:16).

Don’t miss the loud-and-clear proclamation.

It is the King of Kings—not a faint, flickering, soon-to-fade-away Pharaoh—who rinses rivers with blood, fills houses with frogs, unleashes lice, frightens with flies, levels livestock, bestows boils, hammers with hail, lambasts with locusts, decrees dreadful darkness and then delivers death to the firstborn.

Indeed it is the very Radiance of the Glory of God who upholds the universe by the word of his power (Heb. 1:3). And make no mistake: King Jesus, the “ruler of kings on earth” (Rev. 1:5), wields his authoritative power however he pleases.

Nations rise and nations fall because of Christ. No one can stop the Alpha and Omega. No one can stay his hand. All kings must bow before him who sits on the throne, who lives and rules and reigns forever.
